Projet:

Learning Goal:  I can successfully write and talk about a winter sport from the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

In a partner group, research one Jeu Olympique d’hiver.  Madame has provided each group with an information booklet to help.  You may also consult the Internet although this is not necessary to complete the assignment.

Possible sports are :

  • Le biathlon
  • Le bobsleigh
  • Le curling
  • Le combiné nordique
  • Le hockey sur glace
  • La luge
  • Le patinage artistique
  • Le patinage de vitesse
  • Le ski acrobatique
  • Le ski alpin
  • Le ski de fond
  • Le surf des neiges
  • Le saut à ski

Create with your partner a presentation of your chosen sport.  Your presentation could be a poster board, slide show, booklet, brochure, or other form of presentation.  Your presentation must include the following information:

  • A vocabulary list of important words related to the sport.
  • When did the sport originate?
  • What equipment is required to play the sport?
  • The name and picture of one Canadian athlete who competes in this sport.
  • Three or more interesting facts about the sport or how it is played.
  • Three or more pictures of the sport being played or equipment used.
  • A small wordsearch containing the vocabulary from your sport.

REMINDER that we have limited computer time available.  Your guest teacher will inform you of which day (one period) you will have for going to the library.  If you want to rely on the Internet, you may have to do some research or printing at home and bring it with you.  All presentations (with the exception of electronic slide show) should be able to be completed with minimal reliance on computers.  Do not let the computer get in the way of you doing a fantastic job.  Some of the best and colourful projects over the years have been ones that were hand-made.  Not having a computer is no excuse for not working on your project during a work period.  In addition, the school can provide some blank paper or coloured construction paper, and marker and pencil crayons.  Anything you would like to add from home is your responsibility.

You will have this week only (5 days) to complete a professional project.  Upon my return, you will present your chosen sport to myself and the class.  I can’t wait to see what you can do!

Your effort and on-task work habits will be evaluated EACH DAY by your guest teacher.  It will be calculated into your final mark.
Also make sure that your project contains all of the above criteria.  (The criteria is only a minimum.  More is always better.)
And YES…you must do your project in FRENCH!  (Just sayin’)

BONNE CHANCE!

La Saint Valentin Wordsearch

Play St. Valentin LOTTO with your classmates.  Don’t forget to say LOTTO when you win!  You can have a sticker when you win.

Finally, create a St. Valentin card for a friend or a family member.  Look at this website to give you inspiration:
http://foreignlanguagehouse.com/2012/02/make-a-french-valentines-day-card/
You can use a regular 8 1/2″ x 11″ piece of paper folded in half.  You card must be in French and decorated beautifully.  Best work.  It is a gift!
